After graduating from Art Center College of Design in 1978 I began a career as a commercial photographer. I started shooting stock lifestyle photos in 1984 and by the late 90′s I’d devoted myself to shooting stock full time. In 2000 I began shooting stock footage and continue to do so to this day.
I became serious about photography in my late teens. A wide range of classic photographers, like Ansel Adams, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Ernst Haas, Eliot Porter, Diane Arbus, Margaret Bourke-White and W. Eugene Smith, inspired me. When I look at the work of other photographers I’m looking at the result of their process and I’m able to share a connection to their world.
What I learned early on is that the process, more than the result, is my motivation for shooting. When there’s a camera in my hands, I feel connected to my environment. It’s as if seeing and feeling are intertwined and I experience a sense of clarity. I have selected these personal images to share that sense of clarity and connection.
